India rules the roost by winning seven gold, one silver and three bronze medals

India archers proved too good winning seven gold, one silver and three bronze medals on the final day of the 4th Asian Grand Prix archery meet at the SAI, Eastern Centre, on September 19. Yet, India's inability to win any medal in the most prestigious of all the events in the competition, men's recurve, still rankled.

India was hoping to win at least the bronze medal but Vishwash failed miserably to lose the play-off badly to Mark Forrester of Scotland at 104-99.

India made a clean sweep of gold medals in the team championship in the forenoon session and added three more in the afternoon session in the men's and women's compound and women's recurve.

Bangladesh followed India at the second place with a medal haul of one gold and one silver. Scotland was third with three silver and two bronze medals. Iran was fourth with two silver and three bronze medals and Bhutan brought up the rear with one silver medal.

Four Indians make it to the finals

Despite having three world class archers, India will not contest the men's Recurve final of the fourth Asian Grand Prix archery tournament. Only Vishwash will figure in the bronze medal play-off. India, however, managed to have four in the finals of the other events at the end of the penultimate day of the competition on September 18.

After the men Recurve archers performed poorly in the morning, the ladies managed to lift the spirits in the afternoon with awesome display in the women's Recurve. Four of them moved into the semifinals thus ensuring all the medals in this category. Rimil Buriuly and Laxmi Rani Majhi will contest the final while two Olympians Dola Banerjee and V. Pranitha will face off in the third place match.

Gutsy Chungda Sherpa made it to the men's compound final and will come up against Ali Majazidalfard of Iran. National champion C. Srither will challenge Tim Keppie of Scorland for the bronze medal.

Manjudha Soy will take on Tracy McGowan of Scotland in the women's compound final. Two Indians Namita Yadav and Bheigyabati Chanu will meet in the bronze medal game.
