India wins a Bronze medal
India finally won a bronze medal in the women's compound bow team event on the final day of the four-day archery competition of the 3rd Asian Indoor Games at the Haiphong Youth Gymnasium in Hanoi (Vietnam) on November 6.
The Indian trio, comprising Bheigyabati Chanu, Sakro Besra and Vrushali Gorly) lost to Iran in the semifinals at 224-225 but managed to beat host Vietnam in the bronze medal play-off at 226-218 to win the lone medal from archery.
India, however, was not lucky in two other team events where it reached the semifinals. In the men's recurve division, the Indian threesome of Rajib Basumatary, Gurucharan Besra and Nanavath Ravinder, lost to Korea in the semifinals at 229-235 and in the bronze medal play-off against Iran India was unlucky to lose in tie-breaker. The two teams tied 230-230 and in the tie-breaker, Iranians scored 29 points as against Indian's 28.
In the men's compound event, the Indian team, consisting of M. Chinglensana Luwang, Abhishek Verma and L. Haridas Singh, fell to Thailand in the semifinals at 224-225. And in the bronze medal play-off they lost to Vietnam at 216-220.
On November 5, Changlensana too finished fourth losing the bronze medal play-off to an Iranian archer.

Chinglensana fails to get a medal
India's only individual medal hope Maisnam Chinglensana Luwang failed to win any in the men's compound individual event of the 3rd Asian Indoor Games archery event at the Haiphong Youth Gymnasium in Hanoi on November 4.
The Manipur-born armyman lost to ultimate gold medal winner Reza Zamaninejad of Iran 111-117 in the semifinals and in the bronze medal play-off he was beaten by another Iranian Mansour Kordi 110-112.
India can still win archery medals on Friday when the team championship will be gone through.

Chinglensana moves into semifinals
Maisnam Chinglensana Luwang of India moved into the semifinals of the men's compound individual event of the 3rd Asian Indoor Games archery event at the Haiphong Youth Gymnasium in Hanoi on November 4. He will play Reza Zamaninejad of Iran for a place in the final.
Other Indian archers did not measure up to the expectation losing either in pre-quarterfinals or in quarterfinals, according to information received here.
Chinglensana moved into the semifinals beating Chakrit Thongwattana of Thailand 117-114. Abhishek Verma, who made it to the quarterfinals, lost to Mansour Kordi of Iran in the tie-breaker after tying the sore at 113-113. Kordi had 9, 9, 10 in the three tie-breaking shots, Verma had 9, 9, 9.
Gurucharan Besra lost to Korean Kyeong Su Kim in the quarterfinals of the men's recurve individual event at 113-116. Earlier, he had stopped compatriot Rajib Basumatary in the pre-quarterfinals at 116-113.
The lone women recurve archer Punya Prabha Kumari fell in the quarterfinals to Sejin An of Korea at 112-115.
Sakro Besra and Vrushali Gorle too were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the women's compound evnete. Vrushali lost to Nguyen Tien Anh Tran of Vietnam at 113-114, Sakro was out played by Mahtab Parsamehr of Iran at 108-117.

Modest show by Indian archers in qualifying rounds
Indian archers had a moderate day on the first day of the four-day 3rd Asian Indoor Games archery competition at the Haiphong Youth Gymnasium in Hanoi on November 3.
The opening day had the qualification round in all four categories - men's and women's recurve and men's and women's compound - where the Indians had mixed luck.
Rajib Basumatary was the best among Indian recurve men with a two-round total of 577 out of 600 points. This fetched him an overall joint ninth position. Gurucharan Besra and Nanavath Ravinder were placed joint 12th with totals of 575 each. Waikhom Ranjan Singh was 17th overall with a total of 571 in a field of 45. Korea swept all the four top places.
Maisnam Chinglensana Luwang and Sakro Besra were third overall in the men's and women's compound events respecitively. Luwang's total of 575 fetched him the joint third position while Sakro had a total of 567 for her sole third place.
Abhishek Verma was eighth with 571, Laishangbam Haridas Singh was joint ninth with 569 and Jayantilal Nanoma was 15th with 564 in a field of 24 in the men's compound event.
Vrushali Gorle was fifth in the women's compound with a total of 563 points. Sweety Kumari was ninth with 558 and veteran Bheigyabati Chanu was 12th with 553 in a field of 20.
India's lone entry in the women's recurve event, Punyaprabha Kumari was ninth with 566 points in a field of 27.
Archers went through two rounds of 30 arrows at a target fixed at 18 metres for a total of 60 arrows and 600 points.
In none of the four team events, India finished on top. Individual and team elimination round will be gone through in the next two days with the finals coming off on November 6.
India sent its second string archers for the Asian Indoor Games. The top archers are preparing for the 16th Asian Archery Championship beginning at Bali (Indonesia) from November 16.

Indian Archery Squad for 3rd Asian Indoor Games
The Archery Association of India (AAI) on September 20 named the Indian squad for the upcoming third Asian Indoor Games, to be held at Hanoi (Vietnam), from October 30 to November 5.
The AAI secretary general, Mr. Paresh Nath Mukherjee, said the top Indian archers have been rested and a new-look team had been named for the Games. He said a qualifying mark was set for each category and only those who attained the qualifying standards were selected when asked to explain the lone recurve woman in the team.
