Indians among medals at Mexican GP

A three-member compound archery team from Volga Archery Academy in Vijayawada, V. Jyothi Surekha, G. Anand Shankar and E.G.N. Deepu, accompanied by former international and compound coach in National panel, Cherukuri Lenin, won eight medals including an individual Olympic round gold medal at the Mexican Grand Prix held at Tijuana in Baja California (Mexico) from March 10-16, 2009.

Jyothi won five medals including the Olympic round gold medal beating Ali Citlaji Castillo 107-101. Participating in the under-13 girls category, Jyothi also won three silvers (50m, 40m, overall) and a bronze (20m) in the FITA round.

Anand Shankar, competing in the boys under-13 compound event, won two silvers (30m, 20m) and a bronze medal (overall) in the FITA round to complete the tally. He, however, lost the bronze medal play-off in the Olympic round.

The third archer E.G.N. Deepu participated in the under-17 compound section and ended 11th overall.
