The 16th Senior National Indian Round Archery Championship got off to a colourful start at Itanagar, the capital of far-flung Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday. The opening day belonged to Nitu Ingole of Maharashra and Gwimalo Baro of Madhya Pradesh. The two created National records in the 50m event for women and men respectively. Nitu scored 316 points out of 360 and broke the previous record of 309 points held by H. Rajpriya Devi of Manipur established at Vijayawada in 2007. Baro's 332 out of 360 upstaged the old record of 329 points set by S. Basanta of Manipur at Jamshedpur in 2008.

Pratibha Boro of Assam won the 30m distance for women with a score of 327 points. Nitu Ingole of Maharashtra, who stood first in the 50m, was second also scoring 327. Pratibha had 14 (X and 10 pointers) as against Nitu's 12. Anima Basumatary of Assam was third with 318. Rohit Sharma of Services won the men's 30m distance with a score of 330. S. basanta of Assam Rifles was second with 322 (X+10=12) while A. Peru Sharma of Arunachal Pradesh was third with 322 (X+10=8).

Sunil Oraon of Jharkhand won the men's individual Olympic round beating Bishnu Ram Nath of Assam at 105-103. Tulsi Hembrom of Jharkhand emerged the Individual Olympic round champion beating her teammate Lakhi Mondal by 108 points to 98. Th. Usharani Devi of Manipur took the bronze medal in the women's side.

In the men's team Olympic round , Services defeated Madhya Pradesh 214-195. Manipur finished third. Manipur won the women's team Olympic round beating Assam at 202-200. Jharkhand was third.
