India names archery squads for International tournaments

The Archery Association of India (AAI) has made two changes to th eight-member recurve squad for the World Cup (Stage II) at Antalya (Turkey) to be held from June 6 to 11. Swuro siblings from Nagaland, Thupovoyi and Chekrovolu replaced National champion Viswash Kumar of Services and Rimil Buruily of Indian Railway respectively in the men's and women's teams.

India, however, will not participate in the compound bow section at Antalya.

The AAI has also named a 24-member Indian contingent to participate in the third Asian Grand Prix and the Asian Youth championship commencing at Dhaka (Bangladesh) from May 27 to June 1.

With the senior recurve team busy with the World Cup assignment, the AAI has decided to send its first junior teams in the recurve section to the Grand Prix and the second junior teams to the Asian Youth, both to be held concurrently. India, however, will send its best talent in compound bow section to the GP event. There is no compound competition in the Asian youth.

A 21-member Indian team will also participate in the World Youth tournament to be held at Lelgnica, Poland, from August 22 to 29. The team includes reigning girls' cadet recurve world champion Deepika Kumari and boys' cadet recurve bronze medal winner Sanjay Boro.
