India returns with lone silver
The Indian contingent returned home from Shanghai after participating in the World Cup archery Stage I championship with just a silver medal to show off.
The lone medal was won by the women's recurve team, comprising Deepika Kumari, Chekrovolu Swuro and Laishram Bombayla Devi, which went down to Korea 212-222 in the team final.
The championship, which can be considered as the first trial for the London Olympics, turned out to be a disappointing outing as the only other team, the women's compound team, failed in the bronze medal play-off to Italy 217-230.
In the individual elimination round, only World Junior champion Deepika Kumari and Chekrovolu Swuro entered the quarterfinals but both were eliminated at that stage. In the men's recurve, only Tarundeep Rai figured in the pre-quarterfinals where he lost.
The Indian contingent will also participate at the Stage II at Antalya, Turkey from May 1 to 5.
