Jamshedpur, January 28, 2012
Four National records set; Xalxo, Deepika, Rajat and Jyothi are National Champions
Pawan Xalxo and Deepika Kumari of Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) emerged the recurve individual men's and women's champions of the 32nd Sahara Senior National
Archery Championship which concluded at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on January 28, 2012.
Rajat Chauhan of Rajasthan and V. Jyothi Surekha of Andhra Pradesh became the individual champions in the compound section. Excepting Deepika, who retained the title, the other three won the National title for the first time.
Steel Plant (men) and Punjab (women) won the recurve team championship. AP (men) and Railways (women) lifted the compound team titles.
The four-day Championship produced four National Records in the ranking round.
Tarundeep Rai of Services was the lone man to set a National record in the men's recurve 30m event where his 357 out of 360 upstaged the previous best of 356 points set by Mangal Singh Champia at the 29th National held at Pune in 2009.
Laishram Bombayla Devi of Raiwlays established two National records in the 60 and 50m events of the women's recurve. Her total of 345 in the 60m was better than Renna Kumari's 337 set at Ernakulam in Kerala in 2005.
Bombayla also upgraded the 50m record with an effort of 333 points which bested Dola Banerjee's 331 set at Jamshedpur in 2008.
The fourth record was set on the opening day by Chekrovolu Swuro of Nagaland. The tall and powerful archer scored 330 over 70m distance to erase Rimil Buriuly's 328 set at the Pune Nationals in 2009.
This National will also record the absence of veteran Dola Banerjee who failed to make it to the Railways' team thus missing out the championship.
