AAI Guidelines for Participation in National Championships

34th National Games, Jharkhand

You may be aware through Media and your State Olympic Association that IOA has decided to reschedule the 34th National Games from 15 to 28 October, 2009 to 1 to 14 June, 2009 after reviewing the preparation of the Games.

Please find below the Qualification criteria and Eligibility code for participating in the 34th National Games. Other contents furnished by the AAI vide letter dated August 1, 2008 on the subject remain unchanged.

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA:

TEAM: The seven best teams of the Senior National Championship held in Pune (Maharashtra) and Naharlagun (Arunachal Pradesh) are eligible to participate in the National Games. The eighth entry is from Jharkhand State (host state). In case, the team/individual from Jharkhand is in the first 8 positions of National Championship all the eight teams are eligible to participate in the National Games.

INDIVIDUAL: Besides, out of the top 32 Archers in the Olympic Round in Recurve, Compound and Indian Round whose State/Unit team has not qualified for participation in the National Games are also eligible to participate as individual. It may be noted that NO Individual can enter from a State whose team has already qualified in the team event in spite of his individual ranking.

ELIGIBILITY CODE:

Sportspersons : The National Federations, State Olympic Associations and State Sports Associations should inform their sportspersons the eligibility rules at least One (1) year prior to the start of the Games.

  1. To be eligible for participation in the National Games, a competitor must observe and abide by the National Games rules of the IOA and, in addition, the rules of the National Federation of the sport he/she represents.
  2. A sportsperson can represent either the State to which he / she belongs by birth Or The State in which he / she is working or residing at least for the last six (6) months immediately preceding the Opening Ceremony day of the National Games. Participation from any other State shall disqualify him/ her from the National Games.
  3. In case of a sportsperson employed in a State other than his/her State of birth and chooses to represent the state of birth he / she should inform the State Association where he/she is working and his option at least two (2) months before the National Games. Failing which he/she will not be allowed to represent his/her state of birth.
  4. State / UT team or individual for National Games shall be sponsored by the respective State Olympic Associations which are affiliated to IOA. State Olympic Association will sponsor the State teams selected by the State Sports Association of the respective discipline affiliated to the State Olympic Association and to the National Federation concerned which in turn is affiliated to or recognised by IOA.
